Newcastleton 7 Stanes

I had a few hours to kill yesterday evening before setting up my on-the-fly bivvying site so thought I’d go a little way up Newcastleton’s 7Stanes MTB trail. The blue route was easier than I thought it was going to be for a gravel bike with three bags on the back.

So, I plugged on and completed the full trail. It certainly didn’t tax either the Vielo V+1 gravel bike or the Tailfin bags.

On the way to my bivvying spot I was caught in another rain shower but this one came with a rainbow so all’s good.

Rainbow Hermitage

And this morning I rode past Hermitage again. I grabbed a few drone shots.

With temperatures half of what they should be at this time of year — and frequent rain showers — I rode in almost every bit of Rab kit that I’ve got packed. I have a shell and a down jacket thinking they might be useful for dawn starts but I wasn’t expecting to ride in them. I’m glad I also brought, as a last-minute addition, merino gloves.
